One of the blogs recently published describes how having a great attitude will lead to success. The blog we wrote describes that attitude can make all the difference. However, to be a successful real estate agent there’s more to it than attitude.
It’s almost a cliché to say that hard work will lead to success. Everyone knows that, right? Ah, but do they? Do they really? Why does hard work lead to success? Also, many of us know individuals that work hard who aren’t successful at all.
That’s why we thought it might be a good idea to describe hard work. Then, we discuss how real estate agents can work hard to be as successful as possible.
What’s Hard Work?
It’s a valid question. The easy definition is that hard work describes anything that requires a lot of effort. That’s the easy definition. It doesn’t actually work for real estate agents because working hard alone won’t help you succeed as a real estate agent.
Here’s a definition of hard work from a real estate agents point-of-view:
Hard work is putting forth effort to reach specific goals and an overall goal. Why? The reason is because as a real estate agent, every time you wish to sell a house or find a house for a buyer you’re trying to reach a specific goal.
But, specific goals aren’t the same as overall goals. An overall goal for you, the real estate agent, could be something like becoming one of the Top 10 real estate agents in the metro Houston area. Another overall goal would be to make “x” amount of money in commissions that year, in 5 years, or even in 10 years.
Another goal for a real estate agent would be to make enough money to start your own real estate company. Some real estate agents wish to become brokers. Others only wish to be a real estate agent part time.
Whatever the overall goal is, you achieve it via reaching specific goals. Okay, now that we’ve defined what hard work is to a real estate agent, let’s look at some hard work things you can do to help you reach specific goals that will lead to you reaching your overall goal.
Real Estate Agent – Hard Work
Below, are three things you can do to reach your specific goals.
1. Always prospect – Prospecting seems hard. It doesn’t always have to be. By always prospecting, we mean that you must always be on the lookout for potential clients. That means always telling people what you do when you meet someone in your other lives.
2. Keep up on industry changes – This could take hard work. By industry changes, we not only mean what’s happening in your region, where you help buyers and sellers come together. We also mean changes in interest rates and mortgage lending practices. There are all sorts of things that could affect the housing market that could be determined to be an industry change. You must keep up on all of it.
3. Work efficiently, but, yes, work hard too – One of the more famous quotes is, “Don’t work harder. Work smarter.” The problem with this statement is that it implies that working harder and working smarter don’t co-exist. Oh, they do! Sometimes, you work smarter by working harder and vice versa.
Again, those are just three things that we know you can do to become a more successful real estate agent. Work hard and smart, think about reaching specific goals, and see how much successful you are.
